به بست نشینان وال استریت

در راه که می آمدم
تا به اردوی شما بپیوندم
زن جوانی را دیدم
که می خواست سیگارش را روشن کند.
او نه کبریتی خرید
نه فندکی گدایی کرد.
به سادگی از مردی
که سیگار می کشید پرسید:
"می شود آتشتان را وام بگیرم؟"
و بازتابِ سرخی آتش را
در چشم های درخشان مرد
بازشناخت.

آری
با یک آتش
می توان بیش از یک سیگار گیراند.
آتش، ملک همگان است
و "به هر کس به اندازه ی نیازش."1

ای ناباوران
به "دست غیبی بازار"! 2
شوخی نمی کنم
آتشِ اشتراک در اردوگاه شما
بی شک
آتشین سنتِ دودی های ماست.
آتش پرفروغ تان بی دود باد!

Who wanted to light her cigarette.
She neither bought matches
Nor begged for a lighter.
She simply asked a man
Who was smoking a cigarette:
"May I borrow your fire?"
And she recognized
The reflection of his red fire
In his shining eyes.

Yes,
One fire
Can light more than one cigarette.
Fire belongs to all
And "to each according to his needs."(1)

Oh, you nonbelievers
In the "invisible hand of the market!" (2)
I am not kidding
The fire of sharing in your campground
Is undoubtedly
The fiery tradition of our smokers.
May your bright fire be smokeless!
